Recent surveys have shown that many people are aiming to reduce the LDL cholesterol level. Though medications are available to lower high cholesterol, it is advisable to go for natural remedies that help you reduce bad cholesterol from your blood stream.

  • The best natural remedy to reduce high cholesterol level is to drink 8 to 10 glasses daily. You can boil cinnamon sticks in water and drink it warm with honey. Cinnamon has blood thinning properties that can help lower blood cholesterol levels.
  • Grapes help to reduce bad cholesterol. Grape seed oil is proved to be effective in lowering cholesterol levels.
  • Garlic has been shown to reduce the level of bad cholesterol in blood. Both raw and processed garlic can give the beneficial effects.  You can take 2 to 3 cloves of garlic in a day. If you find it hard to take garlic cloves as such, you can take it with some vegetable salads.
  • Taking whole grains like brown rice, oats and barley, legumes, leafy vegetables, cold water fish that contains omega 3 fatty acids and oyster mushrooms are some of the effective cholesterol fighting foods. You can include any one or two of them in your daily diet.
  • Researches show that chronic stress can increase cholesterol levels. You can follow meditation or some other relaxation techniques to cope with stress.
  • Turmeric is effectual in lowering your cholesterol levels. It is advisable to use turmeric liberally while cooking.
  • Coffee is closely associated with elevated cholesterol levels. If you find it difficult to avoid taking coffee completely, you can take coffee brewed with paper filters. The filter paper absorbs the compound called kahweol that raises cholesterol levels.
  • The animal fat found in beef and other red meats are high in saturated fat, which will raise your bad cholesterol level. If you want to take meat, you can go for baked or grilled chicken.
  • Foods containing high cholesterol get oxidized when you keep them in the presence of air. Scrambled eggs, grilled beef and fried bacon are some of the examples of high cholesterol foods. You can protect LDL cholesterol from oxidation by taking antioxidants. Vitamin E is the best antioxidant, which is found in almonds, sunflower oil, sweet potatoes, fish and whole wheat bread.
  • Omega 3 fatty acids are one of the best natural remedies for high cholesterol problem.  Walnuts and flaxseed oil are some of the excellent sources of omega 3 fatty acids.
